Labor have scrapped vital upgrades to Wellington Road in their 2022-23 Budget.
The previous Coalition government committed $110 million to upgrade and duplicate Wellington Road, recognising the thoroughfare as one of the busiest roads connecting the Hills communities to Melbourne.
Wellington Road is an escape route in times of bushfire and emergency for residents in Cockatoo, Emerald, Belgrave South, Gembrook and the Dandenong Ranges.
In the lead up to the 2019 election, Labor committed to match to our $110 million for Wellington Road.
It is a disgrace that Labor have now backflipped on their promise and scrapped the Wellington Road duplication which would have seen families home safer and sooner.
As your Federal Member of Parliament, I will continue to advocate for Wellington Road funding to be re-instated.
It is vital our local roads are as safe as possible for both residents and emergency services.
I recently spoke on Wellington Road in Parliament, you can watch my speech below.
