An elected Dutton Liberal Government will invest $3 million to improve mobile coverage for residents, businesses and visitors in the Yarra Ranges.
This investment will ensure local residents, businesses, and emergency services can now access reliable mobile coverage and internet connectivity.
Liberal Member for Casey, Aaron Violi MP, has been advocating for better local communications since entering Parliament.
“I’ve lived through the challenges we face trying to communicate during emergencies and disasters,” said Mr Violi.
“It is crucial that we invest in eliminating black spots and prepare our community for the extreme weather events, like the 2021 storms and bushfires and those on Black Saturday.”
“Improved telecommunications will also aid our emergency services in times of crisis, allowing them to provide rapid support to locals in times of need,” said Mr Violi.
Shadow Minister for Communications, Melissa McIntosh MP said the announcement will address connectivity issues for the Yarra Ranges who have been calling for better mobile coverage.
“Digital connectivity is now an essential part of how we work, learn, stay safe and remain in contact with family and friends,” said Mrs McIntosh.
“The Liberals will continue to invest in telecommunications infrastructure as part of our plan to strengthen local communities and to get Australia back on track.”
“Unfortunately, the Albanese Labor Government has no interest in improving telecommunications in regional, rural and remote Australia demonstrated by their sparse funding commitments and botched closure of the 3G network,” said Mrs McIntosh.
This commitment is part of the Liberals’ plan to keep our regional communities connected and get Australia back on track.
