It was a pleasure to welcome Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Senator Bridget McKenzie to Casey on Monday 30 January to inspect our unsealed road network.
We visited Mount Evelyn and met with numerous residents who are impacted by the Albanese Labor Government’s decision to rip over $102m from our local road sealing program, Roads for Communities.
Senator McKenzie and I heard firsthand from residents about the safety, health and financial burden of living on unsealed dirt roads.
And as a local, I completely understand the need for safer, sealed roads across our communities.
The former Liberal government understood our need too, having committed $150m for road sealing projects through the Yarra Ranges Council Roads for Communities Program.
Disappointingly, the Albanese Labor Government ripped this funding from our communities in their October 2022 Budget.
I’ve been fighting to have this funding reinstated and advocating to my colleagues in Canberra.
Senator McKenzie and I both pledge to take this fight up with Labor and continue fighting to have this vital funding reinstated.
We all deserve safe, sealed roads.
It’s what we were promised, and I’ll fight to see it delivered.
