This week marks National Homelessness Week.
Federal Member for Casey, Aaron Violi recognises and pays tribute to the enormous effort that many Australians give to improving the lives of people experiencing homelessness, including many in our community.
To thank volunteers on the frontline, Mr Violi visited the Stable One Winter Shelter in Lilydale on Monday 4 August.
“I’m glad I was able to drop into the Stable One Winter Shelter to thank the many dedicated volunteers, including those from Anchor Community Care, for all they do to support locals without a place to stay,” Mr Violi said.
“It was great to be able to help the volunteers unload the truck of supplies, set up beds, blow up mattresses and prepare the dining room for dinner – all tasks they do so often without asking a thing in return.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Stable One, Anchor and the Winter Shelter model in our community providing so much more than a place to stay. It’s a place where people experiencing homelessness find vital support, care and connection.
The Coalition is currently undertaking a review of our housing and homelessness policies, however, we are committed to getting more older Australians into secure homes, as well as women and children affected by domestic and family violence, our youth, Indigenous peoples, the long–term homeless, and individuals transitioning
from institutions.
Our commitment to sustained support will always be aimed at combatting the challenges of homelessness in our society beyond short–term fixes.
